Death of a Race is a fictional story about the demise of the Beothuck Indians that has grown out of the early history of the island of Newfoundland. As an educator, teaching Social Studies in Newfoundland schools for over thirty years with the study of the Beothuk as part of this lost tribe. The disappearance of these little known indigenous people of our island is nothing less than a tragedy. For centuries they roamed the island with freedom, living a semi-nomadic life as hunters and gatherers, moving seasonally between the coast during summer and the interior in winter. The part played by our ancestors in the demise of these once heroic people will always be a subject for argument and debate.
