This book shows through pictures and descriptions of the of
the many lighthouses in Newfoundland and Labrador
For more than 500 years, the people and economy of
Newfoundland and Labrador have been inextricably linked to the resources of the
sea. By the late 1800s, more than 1,300 outports ( small settlements located “
out” from St John’s), depended on the fishery for their survival. Almost everyone lived within sight of the
ocean, and the interior remained undeveloped and largely unexplored.
